Welcome to whenpoisemeetsbeauty.blogspot.com!
I was greatly inspired by the artwork of the 20th century especially the Cubism movement lead by Picasso and Braque. Cubism is a movement whereby their paintings consist of simultaneous viewpoints and from analysis of objects in space. Furthermore, their works includes may lines and geometrical shapes.

For this collection, I have decided to translate the line and the asymmetry of their works onto panels and pockets. Next, I have also used printed fabrics to mix and match the lines and layering on top of each other to create the feeling of cubism.

Last week, I have decided to drop by French brand cosmetic store, SEPHORA! At Paradigm mall. With my heart set on finding a new foundation and a concealer while browsing the store, Stila's foundation and concealer managed to caught my attention. With my mind set on finding A foundation and A concealer, Stila caught my attention for having both foundation and concealer in a bottle!

Next, Stila's foundation and concealer came in lots of different tones and shades so in other words, you'll be able to find colours that matches to your skin tone. So with my skin tone, I have decided to go with the colour Light (3). And I do have to say it matches my skin tone pretty well!

Furthermore, within the box, Stila's foundation and concealer comes with a size 35 make up brush. The reason behind this is because you'll have to scoop up the foundation with their scoop/spoon and then use the brush to apply it onto your skin. I guess you'll just have to go an extra mile onto your makeup routine upon using it.

Stila's Foundation and Concealer has been pretty positive on me so far, but I can't wait to start using and applying this product. Anyways I'll be doing a review on the Foundation and Concealer soon so stay tuned for a review!

Today, Kanye West had been topping the headlines with his latest collaboration with Adidas on the first day of New York Fashion Week.

"I want to create something better for you," Kanye said passionately. "We have been limited. It's bigger than who I am. It's about when I was on earth, what did I do to help? I want people to feel like it's OK to create and follow what their dreams are and not feel boxed in. I want people to feel like awesome is possible. There's a lack of creativity in every field because people are afraid. As an artist and in this world, we can do whatever we want."

For this collection, it seems that Kanye was inspired by the riots that seized London in 2011, and I believe he was going towards the military aspect (with his choice of colours). Honestly, I was very curious at what the rapper had installed for everyone, and I must say I was pretty shocked like seriously. I mean his designs were pretty different then what we normally see on runways. The models were wearing body stockings, most of them were clothed on top as for their bottoms, they were only covered with body stockings. For me, they are still practically wearing nothing. (no offence)

On the other hand, the point that I find it confusing was that Adidas is a sport wear label but the models looks like they were about to doze off or they did not have sufficient sleep. Furthermore, at the technical aspect,, I know that his approach was mainly towards the baggie and oversize clothing, but is it just me but I really felt that the garments were just disproportioned and somehow I just can't un-see it.

One plus point about his collection was his selection of models. For his collection, his models were made up of people of all shapes and sizes, which is different but yet refreshing. Cause from my point of view, clothing were meant to be worn by people of all shapes and sizes, but executing that on the runway, people were able to see the clothing not just on models but on normal everyday people.

In conclusion, I honestly think that his collection would definitely keep people talking, but I am not really a fan of this collection and you won't be finding any of his design pieces in my wardrobe.
Ever since I was young, I always wanted a jewellery box especially a ring holder box. But whenever I go out to the stores, the box is either too expensive or too small. So in the end I decided to figure out a way to DIY my own ring holder box and it doesn't cost me much AND i am able to store lots of rings in it.

Well enough of my blabbering, let's get started!

What you'll need,
  • You can use any type of box of your choice, as for mine, I decided to use a box from the present I received from my friend on my Birthday.
  • Any thick fabric would do, it doesn't need to be pretty because it will not be seen from the outside. For this DIY, i decided to use some left over fabrics from my previous projects, denim fabric.
  • For the top coverage, you can use any type of fabric of your choice except thin fabrics such as, chiffon, organza (you get the picture) because fabric like those would not be able to stay put furthermore I do not want to be able to see the base of my structure. So for this DIY i decided to use cotton.
  • Lastly, a pair of scissors, I'm using my trusty fabric scissors, but normal scissors would do as long as it's sharp enough to cut you fabrics!

Firstly, measure the measurement of your box, and then cut your thick fabric according to the measurement of your box (width). As you can see from the diagram below, the width of my box is 13cm, so the width of my fabric should be 13cm as well so that you'll be able to place the fabric into the box later. As for the length of the fabric, I decided to cut it in 15cm. Depending on your fabric choice and the thickest you want for your ring holder the length might vary.

The next step is folding your fabric, depending on the height of your box and the height you want your ring holder to be the measurement might differ. But for my box, since the height of my box is 5.5cm so i decided to have a folding line of 3cm. If your box is 4cm high, a 2cm folding line should be sufficient.

I made a total of 16 of them. You can make more of them or less as long as you're happy with the amount. (Depending on the amount of line you would like and the length of your box)

The next thing you need to do is to cut the top fabric. (I call it the top fabric because you'll be using it to cover the thick fabric) Same as the above, you would need to cut the width according to the width of your box. As for the length, I have cut a total of 100cm.

Next, start inserting the thick fabrics into the box

Using you top layer fabric, start by pressing the edges down at the corner and just as the picture below, press your top layer fabric into the 2nd of the thick fabric. Repeat the steps.

When you're at the last layer and you have some excess fabric, you can either cut the fabric but bear in mind that you'll have to leave some room so that you'll be able to press the last layer into the corner to prevent raw edges. If you don't feel like cutting, you can tuck the excess fabric underneath the thick fabrics.

What if you have insufficient fabric?

No worries! You don't have to redo everything over  again. What you can do it cut another layer of fabric and press the fabric into the place where you left off. Make sure to sandwich the raw edges in between the thick fabrics!

Once you're done then you're ready to insert your ring and then Voila! Your very own ring holder!
